Boiler Plus comes into force
From the 6 April 2018, the new Boiler Plus standard comes into force.
The purpose of this new Standard is to improve the way people use energy in their homes by giving them more choice, more control and savings on their energy bills. The changes impact on installation of new boilers
The new minimum performance standard for domestic gas boilers in England will be set at 92% ErP (energy related products). Timers and room thermostats will become a requirement for all gas and oil systems.
When a gas combination boiler is installed, an additional energy efficiency measure will be required. This requirement is flexible to allow customer to make the right choice. The energy saving technologies that can be used to comply are:
1. Smart controls featuring automation and optimisation functions
2. Weather Compensation
3. Load Compensation
4. Flue gas heat recovery systems
Installers who fail to install boilers in line with these new Building Regulations will be breaking the law and could be prosecuted by Building Control. The Gas Safe Register can also refer safety concerns to the HSE (Health and Safety Executive). Homeowners who knowingly allow non-compliant work to be carried out could also face prosecution and fines of up to £5,000.
At Warwickshire Heating, we are already working with customers who are upgrading their boilers to ensure they are fully compliant with Boiler Plus, but most importantly our customers are benefiting from high energy efficiency boilers that will provide their heating and hot water requirements, whilst saving on their energy bills for years to come.
